Weekly Photo Challenge: Fleeting Moment

This one is hard. I’ve been racking my brain for something that would fit the description fleeting moment. It just sounds so…cryptic, and beautiful.

Anyway, here’s what I came up with:

This photo was taken while we were firefly-watching along Iwahig River in Puerto Princesa City. We boarded a small boat, capable only of carrying around 4 passengers, I think.

To avoid light pollution, tourists are prohibited to use their camera flashes so I really had a hard time capturing the beauty surrounding us. I was so frustrated because the fireflies adorned the trees as if they were twinkling christmas lights, the light the full moon brought was just magnificent…and yet I couldn’t get a decent shot.

On our way back, I was finally able to take a picture (which actually looked like a drawing/painting). I was hurriedly clicking and clicking that button while we were out in the open. I panicked because we were on the move, and once we get under the shade of the trees, there won’t be enough light anymore and I would miss my chance.

This picture, it was the only shot that came out right. You could see that we were moving, judging by the blur. It still made me happy though. One shot is better than no shot at all.

I just told myself that even if I didn’t get to capture the scenery in my camera, at least I get to keep the memory — of us watching the stars and naming the constellations, and admiring the fireflies— forever :)
